Bridge of Song returns with two-year anniversary concert

Greenshine will headline the Bridge of Song second anniversary celebration concert at the Linenhall Arts Center, Castlebar on October 27.

“Live music is better. So said Neil Young, and who are we to argue?

With the popularity of streaming and downloading, it’s easy to forget that live performances were once the backbone of the music industry.

Bridge of Song, a monthly showcase of singer-songwriters that has exploded onto the Mayo music scene, capitalizes on the need for this connection between performer and audience.

Created by Eamonn Mulderrig, director of the music course at Mayo College of Further Education, the idea was born in late 2018. Working with new singer-songwriters in the music course, it quickly became apparent that a flat -local form for new original music live listening audience had to be cultivated.

Partnering with Bridge St Bar in Castlebar, the first Bridge of Song Party was launched in October 2018 featuring new and established local talent.

Established artists with a national profile make the headlines each month, giving them the opportunity to connect with new audiences and promote their music in the West of Ireland. The First Night featured Emma Langford, who has since garnered a coveted RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Award and achieved international success.

In the two years since the first night, Bridge of Song has grown into a community music project that stands side by side across the country.

“Being a monthly event, we now have a waiting list of national acts looking for a place,” says Eamonn.

On October 27, Bridge of Song is celebrating its second anniversary with a celebratory concert at the Linenhall Arts Center, featuring a flagship performance by RTÉ Radio One favorites Greenshine. Special guests for the evening will be Puddletown Suite No. 3, a new folk supergroup featuring members of Vickers Vimy, Coda and Greenshine performing songs by Tommy Hughes.

Tickets for this magical night of new folk music are available at the Linenhall Arts Center Box Office, Castlebar – phone (094) 9023733 or e-mail [email protected]
